It’s back to school time and football games are in full swing which means basketball season is just around the corner. Registration for the upcoming 2011 Upward basketball and cheerleading season begins on Saturday, September 11. Though the first Upward games won’t begin until January, roster spaces fill up fast, especially in the younger divisions. The best only way to guarantee your child a spot in the program is to register online and do so as early as possible. A link will be available soon on this website for you to sign up!
The CUMC Upward ministry is run 100% by volunteers and the Upward team has a place for you! For youth and adults—how about becoming an Upward Basketball or Cheerleading coach? The time commitment is modest and typically includes a one-hour practice each week and a one-hour game each Saturday over the eight week season (Jan – Mar). With a coach’s handbook and a single pre-season training session, you will have everything you need to succeed. If coaching isn’t where your gifts lie, then consider serving as a referee, scorekeeper, devotion speaker, sound booth operator or game day worker. There is a place for you and a guarantee that Upward Saturdays will keep a smile on your face all winter long.
The Upward Co-Directors, David Peterson and Jim Ayers covet your prayers this season as they search for the next generation of Upward directors. Though they both plan to remain involved with the program, after six years at the helm, they feel it is time to offer the reigns to fresh leadership. The smoothest transition would be to have the future director(s) work alongside them this year to include the pre-season preparation efforts currently underway.
If you feel the call to Upward leadership please give David a call right away. If you would like to discuss what is involved in any of the volunteer roles, please call David Peterson at 703.968.3691. He will be glad to talk with you so you can find the right spot on the Upward team to fulfill your call to minister to the CUMC youth and the Centreville community.
