Position Title:                        Director, Elementary Children’s Ministry                   

Employment Status:             Full-Time (40 hrs/week)  

Reports To:                           Senior Pastor

Position Overview:

To help CUMC fulfill its responsibilities before God and be effective in ministry among His creation, this position will facilitate faith formation in children (Kindergarten through 6th grades) and provide support and nurturing for both children and their parents. The children’s ministry will work to build children’s faith in the areas of Christian education, fellowship, service, and worship.

 

Primary Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Build and participate in a positive culture and team spirit among the CUMC staff by role modeling Staff Core Values
  • Work closely with the Director, Preschool Children’s Ministries to provide a comprehensive and cohesive Children’s Ministry in the following areas, being responsible for these areas for the appropriate ages:
    • Establish and participate in a fully functioning Children’s Council including key volunteer positions to provide vision and leadership for the children’s ministry;
    • Safety supervision – establish and maintain standards of maximum safety and security of children while they are participating in church programs; 
    • Volunteer support – recruit, train, appreciate and nurture teachers and other volunteers who facilitate programs;
    • Curriculum – select, review, and/or develop curriculum for all age appropriate children’s programs.  Coordinate with Director, Preschool Children’s Ministries to ensure a cohesive curriculum for all ages;
    • Oversee facility readiness – work with Director of Office Administration and custodians to guarantee that rooms are reserved, set up, and supplies are available for each event;
    • Provide direction to Administrative Assistant.

 

  • Sunday Mornings:
    • Recruit, nurture, and empower volunteer Sunday School teachers.
    • Oversee weekly staffing of Sunday School teachers, arranging for substitutes as needed;

o        Set up classrooms for weekly Sunday morning classes;

o        Provide support for Sunday morning activities in coordination with Director, Preschool Children’s Ministry on a schedule that provides personal worship time for each director;

o        Manage activities of Volunteer Coordinator for Acolyte and Offering Helper Ministry.

  

 

  

  • Mission and Fellowship:
  •  
    • Facilitate Mission and Fellowship Group ministry for Kindergarten through 6th Graders (currently called JUMP or Junior United Methodist People), recruit and nurture volunteer leaders, and provide leadership to encourage children’s participation;
    • Coordinate Kids With A Mission monthly mission collection with Director, Preschool Children’s Ministry and volunteer leaders.

 

  • Communications and Publicity

o        Oversee production of the weekly Children’s Bulletin prepared by the Administrative Assistant;

o        In coordination with Director, Preschool Children’s Ministry, and Administrative Assistant produce or oversee production of:

-flyers, bulletin boards, e-mails, letters, and other communications with parents and volunteers;

-announcements for weekly bulletin and weekly KidsPoint newsletter;

-articles and announcements for monthly church newsletter;

-informational updates for church website

 

  • Special Events:
  •  
    • Establish, staff, and oversee the volunteer position of Vacation Bible School Director.  The VBS Director, in partnership with Children’s Ministry staff, will be responsible for coordinating VBS and recruiting volunteers to ensure a successful summer program;
    • Create and implement two Children’s Christmas Eve worship services in partnership with Music Ministry staff;
    • With help from the Administrative Assistant prepare and execute the 3rd Grade Bible program;
    • Program development – develop yearly programs to carry out the objectives stated above for children in coordination with the Director, Preschool Children’s Ministry.

 

Physical Demands:

Good health and stamina, able to lift children.

 

Qualifications

  • The love of children and a desire to serve God in ministry with children
  • Enjoy working with people, both individually and in groups
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Oral and written communication skills
  • Leadership skills

 

Education/Experience

  • Children’s Christian Education experience preferred;
  • College degree in the field of childcare or education or equivalent experience preferred;
  • Experience supervising volunteers;
  • Computer skills, especially word processing and email communications.
 
Part Time Music Director PDF Print E-mail

Centreville UMC has an opening for a part-time music director position, up to 10 hours per week (mid-August through mid June). This person should be energetic, enthusiastic, and creative, able to build on a small but active youth choir ministry, working with middle school and high school youth.  The director will be involved in guiding choir members both in their musical and spiritual development.  That guidance can take many forms beyond the traditional rehearsal/performance model.  Centreville UMC seeks a director who enjoys thinking outside of the box and who is willing to try new activities with choir members.
