Each summer CUMC sends a mission team of adults and youth for a one week mission to the small Appalachian town of Sneedville, TN. A Vacation Bible School program is offered to children in living in five different areas of the community. A nursing home ministry spends several hours a day at a local nursing home playing, singing and worshipping with the elderly residents. A special program for women in the community is held in two locations. Construction teams build and/or repair homes and assist throughout the community with projects that serve those in need.
The mission team coordinates the work in Sneedville with UM missionaries Steve and Diantha Hodges and Randy Hildebrandt. The missionaries serve at Jubilee Project where they work with the community to provide needed assistance, help with small business development and offer many programs for community youth.
A pen pal program connects first grade children in Hancock County Elementary School in Sneedville with children in Sunday school classes and children’s fellowship groups at CUMC.
At Christmas the CUMC congregation purchases gifts for 100 children in the Sneedville community and for the residents of the nursing home that are delivered in time for Christmas morning.
DATE AND TIME: The mission trip is scheduled for the first Saturday following the last day of school in Fairfax County. The next trip is scheduled for June 26 through July 3, 2010.
